Work with linked test casesTosca Cloud

When you integrate qTest and Tosca Cloud, you can convert test cases from qTest to Tosca Cloud to automate and run your test in Tosca Cloud (opens in a new tab). Or, you can create test cases in Tosca Cloud and convert them to qTest.

This lets you take advantage of qTest features, like setting requirements and generating test cases from them, while also accessing the efficiency of automated tests in Tosca Cloud.

Before you start

Configure the integration in the qTest project.
Ensure you have permission to view and update test cases in the qTest project.
If you haven't let, check out the known limitations for this integration, so you know what it's currently capable of.

Convert a test case from qTest to Tosca Cloud

When you convert a test case, qTest sends it to the workspace you created when you configured your Tosca Cloud integration. Then, you can automate and run your test in Tosca Cloud (opens in a new tab).

To convert a qTest test case to Tosca Cloud, follow these steps:

In qTest, go to Test Design and select the test case you want to send to Tosca Cloud.
Select Convert.
Confirm the test case conversion. Tosca Cloud then creates a new test case that is linked to your qTest test case and it moves your test case up to the next major version.

Select Open in Tosca Cloud to start automating the test case in Tosca Cloud.

Work with Tosca Cloud test cases in qTest

After the integration is active, Tosca Cloud users can choose to convert a Tosca Cloud test case to qTest (opens in a new tab).

Whenever they do this, qTest adds the linked test case to the Imported from Tosca Cloud root module in the Test design tab. You can't move or duplicate this root module. If you delete it, qTest asks you to confirm, then deletes the module and everything inside it. These objects won't be deleted in Tosca Cloud, but they will be unlinked from qTest.

If you move a test case out of the Imported from Tosca Cloud root module, it stays linked to Tosca Cloud.

This release creates a test case shell in qTest. It doesn't bring test step text over from Tosca Cloud.

Here's what will populate for each field in a test case converted from Tosca Cloud:

Version: Starts at 1.0. Linking or unlinking a test case doesn't create a new test case version.
Author: Tosca Cloud Integration.
Custom fields: If you have a required custom field that Tosca Clouddoesn't provide a value for, qTest assigns it the project's default value.

Work with linked test cases

If a test case is linked to Tosca Cloud, you can't edit the Name, Description, Test steps, or Precondition in qTest.

Here's what you'll see in the user interface (UI) if a test case is linked to Tosca Cloud:

Linked to Tosca Cloud: The Linked to Tosca Cloud icon displays on all linked test cases and the Imported from Tosca Cloud module in the tree on the Test design tab.
Linked to Tosca Cloud: This notification displays at the top of all linked test cases.
Open in Tosca Cloud: Select this option to open the linked test case in Tosca Cloud.

Unlink a test case

If you want to edit a linked test case in qTest, you must unlink it first.

To unlink a test case from Tosca Cloud, go to the test case you want to unlink and select Unlink Tosca Cloud.

When the test case is unlinked, qTest and Tosca Cloud keep their copies where you originally had them saved. qTest converts its test case to manual. Unlinking a test case doesn't affect the test case's previous test executions.

You can't relink a test case to the original object you unlinked it from in Tosca Cloud. If you choose to link the test case from qTest again, it will create a new object in Tosca Cloud, in addition to the existing unlinked object.

When you unlink a test case, qTest notifies all project members in the app, but it doesn't send an email.
