Get to know the Automation Recording Assistant environment

With Tricentis Automation Recording Assistant (Tricentis ARA), you can create TestCases quickly and easily. To control the recording process, you use the Tricentis ARA window.

Select the recording mode

You can use different recording modes depending on what you want to record.

You can switch between these modes at any time during the recording process without having to pause Tricentis ARA. Simply use the Tricentis ARA menu.

Navigate the Automation Recording Assistant window

The Tricentis ARA window appears over your application. Use it to control your recording.

You can drag and drop the Tricentis ARA window to any position on your screen.

Options when recording is in progress

When your recording is in progress, the Tricentis ARA window displays the following buttons:

Description

Pause the recording. This changes the button to the resume icon.

Resume the recording. This changes the button to the pause icon.

Stop the recording. You can't resume stopped recordings. Once you stop your recording, if you click the resume icon, you directly get the option to save your previous recording and start a new one.

Switch to Create Image Based TestStep Mode.

Turn Verification Mode on or off.

Open the settings dialog to configure Tricentis ARA.

Options when recording is stopped

When you stop your recording, the Tricentis ARA window displays the following buttons:

Description

Start a new recording. This overwrites your previous recording.

Play back your recording.

This lets you check whether your recorded test would execute properly. Tricentis ARA shows passed TestSteps in green and failed TestSteps in red. If the playback fails, Tricentis ARA displays an error message.

Undo the last change you made to a TestStep value. You can also undo a change by pressing CTRL+Z.

Click the down arrow to view all changes. Click an element on the list to undo several changes at the same time.

Redo the last change you made to a TestStep value. You can also redo a change by pressing CTRL+Y.

Click the down arrow to view all the changes that you have undone. Click an element on the list to redo several changes at the same time.

Save the recording.

Continue the recording from the last TestStep.

Open the settings dialog to configure Tricentis ARA.

View recorded TestSteps

The Tricentis ARA window shows a list of all TestSteps that you've recorded. When you record a new TestStep, Tricentis ARA adds it to the list.

When you stop the recording, the icon appears next to each TestStep. Select the icon to edit the recorded TestSteps.
