License seat consumption

Your Tosca Cloud plan includes a limited number of seats for contributor or admin users. If your organization uses workspaces and groups, more than one role can affect whether a user occupies a seat.

This topic explains where to check your seat count and how roles affect seat consumption.

Total seats

A seat is occupied by any active user with a contributor or admin role. Users with only the viewer role don't consume a seat, so you can invite as many viewers as you like.

The system aggregates seat totals across your active licenses. As an administrator, you can view them at  User menu > Settings > My plan.

Seat-consuming users

Whether a user occupies a seat depends on their user role, group roles, and workspace roles combined. The following sections explain each.

User roles

Go to  User menu > Settings > Users and groups and check each user's Roles column. Users with a contributor or admin role occupy a seat. A user with only the viewer role at the tenant level doesn't occupy a seat from their user role alone, but may still occupy one through a group or workspace role.

Group roles

If you assign a role to a group, every member gets that role's permissions in addition to their own. A member with only the viewer role at the tenant level still occupies a seat if their group has a contributor or admin role.

Workspace roles

A workspace role also affects seat consumption. If you assign a user or group the contributor or admin role in a single workspace, that user occupies a seat, even though the role applies only within that workspace.

To check workspace roles, go to  User menu > Settings > Workspaces, open the workspace, then select the Workspace users tab.

Tenant-level and workspace-level roles combine the same way. If you're a viewer at the tenant level but assigned to a workspace as a contributor or admin, you still occupy a seat.
