App Cockpit

The App Cockpit screen displays the variants and results that are available to you for the currently selected app. To display the screen, select an app from the Apps screen. The App Cockpit screen’s header section displays the app’s title and description, and includes a breadcrumb trail leading back to the Apps screen. The App Cockpit screen has the following sections.

Variants

A variant is an instance of an app with a saved set of parameter values. Private variants are accessible to the current user only. Shared variants are accessible to all users who have the app on their Apps screen. This section lists the app variants that are available to the current user, and displays the following details for each variant.

Column Description
Variant The name of a variant.
Date When a variant is created, this column displays the date and time when the variant was created. When a variant is created is run, this column displays the date and time when the execution was started.
Status The execution status for the variant. Move the mouse cursor over each status entry to display additional details.
Actions - Edit Click the Edit Variant icon. icon to display the selected variant in the Variant screen. Edit the variant’s parameter values as required, and click Save to save your changes.
Actions - Run

Click the Run Variant icon. icon to run a variant. When a variant is run, the workflow associated with the app is executed using the parameter values saved in the variant. The Run Variant icon. icon is not shown for variants that are queued or already running.

Click the Abort Variant icon. icon to abort a running variant. If a variant has been aborted, its associated workflow may be continued in the LiveCompare studio by a user with Editor permissions. Note that stepping though the actions in an app’s associated workflow doesn't update the app’s run status in the consumer interface.

Actions - Share Click the Share icon. icon to create a copy of the selected variant that will be accessible to all users who have access to the app.

The Status column may contain the following values:

Status Description
<Blank> The variant has not been run.
Running The variant is currently running. The tool tip for this status displays the start time for the execution. If a start time is not shown in the tool tip, the variant is queued for execution. The number of variants and workflows that may be run concurrently is determined by the ‘MaxConcurrentProcesses’ setting in the Configuration - General screen.
Success The execution of the variant has completed successfully. The tool tip for this status displays the start and end time for the execution, and the number of workflow actions run.
Aborted The variant was aborted. The tool tip for this status displays the start and end time for the execution.
Failed An error occurred while executing the variant. The tool tip for this status displays the error message returned by the associated workflow.
UnknownTermination The Tricentis LiveCompare Application Server service was stopped while the variant was running. The tool tip for this status displays the time when the variant was last saved.

Create a new variant

To create a new private variant, follow these steps.

Click Add Variant button. to display the New variant dialog.

  1. Enter a name for the new variant in the Variant Name field.

  2. In the Based on field, select [App] if the new variant should use the parameter values that were saved when the app was created. Alternatively, select a variant name to use the parameter values from the selected variant. [App] is the default value.

  3. Enter a name for the variant and click OK.

The new variant is listed in the Variants table.

Create a new shared variant

To create a new shared variant, click the parent variant’s Share icon. icon in the Variants table’s Actions column. A shared variant is created named <parent variant name>_<unique number>. This is a copy of the parent variant, and will be available to all users who access the app from their Apps screen.

Note that a variant that is created by clicking Share icon. may not be shared further. Each user maintains their own set of variant results; the results of running a shared variant are available to the current user only.

Delete variants

To delete one or more variants, select the checkboxes next to one or more entries in the Variants table, and click Delete Variant button.. To mark all the variants for deletion, select the checkbox in the column heading. A variant that is currently running or queued may not be deleted. If a shared variant is deleted, it will no longer be available to any users.

Refresh the Variants table

Select the F5 key periodically to refresh the Variants table and display each variant’s current execution status.

Export the Variants table to Excel

Click Export Variants to Excel button. to export the Variants table to an Excel spreadsheet.

Results

This section lists the app results that are available to the current user, and displays the following details for each app result.

Column Description
Variant The name of the variant that generated the results.
Date This column displays the date and time when the variant that produced the result was started.
Actions - Results

If an app generated a URL, click Results icon. to access the URL. Normally, this will be a link to a generated report.

Actions - Email Click Email icon. to display the Email Results screen, which allows you to send the app result to other users via email. Complete the To field, and modify the Subject and Message fields if required, then click Send. Note that commas or spaces should be used to separate multiple email addresses.
Actions - Share Click the Share icon. icon to share the app result with one or more LiveCompare users. The users are able to access the shared results from the App Cockpit screen.
Actions - Add to Favorite

This column allows app results to be marked as Favorites. Click Add Favorite icon. to mark an app result as Favorite, or Remove Favorite icon. remove the Favorite setting. App results marked as Favorites won't be deleted by the scheduled task that runs nightly to purge reports and app results.

Delete results

To delete one or more app results, select the checkboxes next to one or more entries in the Results table, and click Delete Results button.. To mark all the results for deletion, select the checkbox in the column heading.

Refresh the Results table

Select the F5 key periodically to refresh the Results table and display any newly-generated results.

Export the Results table to Excel

Click Export Results to Excel button. to export the Results table to an Excel spreadsheet.

Navigation panel

The navigation panel is displayed on the left-hand side of each Apps screen, and includes the following icons:

Dashboard tool button. Displays the Dashboard screen.
Projects tool button (LiveCompare Editors). Displays the Projects screen.
Report List icon. Displays the My Reports utility.
Apps Monitor tool button. Displays the Apps Monitor screen.
Usage tool button. Displays the Usage Dashboard.
Service Status tool button. Displays the Service Status screen.
Apps tool button. Displays the Apps screen.
Studio tool button. Displays the LiveCompare studio.
Quick Compare tool button. Displays the Quick Compare Wizard.
LUX tool button. Displays the LUX utility.
Data Cleanser tool button. Displays the Data Cleanser utility.
Contacts tool button. Displays the Contacts utility.

The Dashboard, Apps, LUX, Data Cleanser and Contacts icons are marked with a vertical bar if they are selected in the navigation panel.

Header

If you have LiveCompare Editor or Consumer permissions, the header section includes a Select Project dropdown, which lets you select a project that LiveCompare will display in the Projects screen.

If LiveCompare is Resource Group-controlled, the header section contains a Select Resource Group dropdown, which lets you select a Resource Group. You can only access resources in the currently-selected Resource Group.

LiveCompare displays the following icons on the top right-hand side of the screen.

Icon Description
Academy tool button. Accesses the Tricentis LiveCompare Consumers playlist from the Tricentis Academy.
Help tool button. Displays help for the current screen.
User tool button Displays the My Profile screen, showing your user profile.
Log out tool button. Signs you out of your current LiveCompare session.

Keyboard navigation

When navigating to the beginning or end of the Variants or Results data grids using the keyboard, a link named ‘Skip to Variants datagrid’ is displayed.

  • Select Tab to display a link named ‘Skip to Results datagrid’.

  • Click either link to navigate to the beginning of the appropriate data grid.
