Link test cases and playlists to requirements

A requirement structure describes what your application must do for your business, but on its own it can't tell whether you actually tested those criteria. When you link test cases to requirements and playlists to requirement sets, Tosca Cloud can measure how well your tests cover each requirement and track their run progress.

Link test cases to requirements

When you link a test case to a requirement, you record which test proves it works. This gives you coverage at the level of each business criterion.

To link a test case to a requirement, follow these steps:

1. On the Requirements page, locate the requirement you want to cover.

2. Open the User assets tab and locate the test case.

3. Drag a test case onto the requirement. To link several test cases at once, select them with their checkboxes and drag the selection.

4. Select Save.

Once linked, you can jump to the linked items in your inventory.

Link playlists to requirement sets

A playlist runs a group of tests together, so you link it to a requirement set instead of a single requirement. This gives you coverage at the level of a feature area.

To link a playlist, follow these steps:

1. On the Requirements page, locate the requirement set you want to cover.

2. Open the User assets tab and locate the playlist.

3. Drag a playlist onto the requirement set. To link several playlists at once, select them with their checkboxes and drag the selection.

4. Select Save.

Once linked, you can jump to the linked items in your inventory.

Plan coverage with placeholders

Placeholder links let you reserve empty link slots on requirements before the test cases are ready.

To add a placeholder, right-click the requirement and select + Create test case link. When the test case is ready, drag it onto the Unassigned test case link to finalize the link.

Unassign a link

Unassign a link when you want to swap the asset but keep the slot. Right-click the link and select Unassign test case or Unassign playlist link. The placeholder stays on the requirement, ready for a new link.

Delete a link

Delete a link when you no longer need it. Select the link and select Delete in the toolbar, or right-click it and select Delete.

Select Save to apply your changes.
