Check out licenses

Sometimes, you may want to reserve specific licenses for particular machines. This topic explains how to check out licenses, which reserves them for a particular host ID. For example, if you want to make sure that your Tosca Distribution Agents have the necessary test execution licenses at runtime. As long as a license is checked out, no other host ID can use it, including host IDs of admin users.

Note that you can check out licenses for a maximum of 30 days.

Before you start

Make sure your machine is connected to the type of license server you use, either the cloud license server or the on-premises license server (opens in a new tab).

Also, if you're not sure which licenses are available, you can view a list of all available licenses.

Check out a license

To check out a license on a particular machine, follow these steps:

  1. Access the license configuration and go to the Manage tab.

  2. Select your license type from the dropdown and Apply.

  3. In the list of available licenses, activate the checkbox for all licenses you want to check out. You can check out entire license packages, or you can expand license packages and select specific licenses from these packages.

  1. Specify how long you want to check out the selected licenses.v

  2. Select Checkout.

Return checked-out licenses

If you no longer need your checked-out licenses and want to free them up for other users, you can return them:

  1. Access the license configuration and go to the Manage tab.

  2. In the license type dropdown, select the license type from which you checked out your licenses. Then select Apply.

  3. In the subsequent dialog, select OK to confirm the return of your checked-out licenses.
