Use the Tosca Administration Console

The Tosca Administration Console is key to an efficient, secure, and future-proof testing infrastructure.

The console includes Tricentis User Administration, which lets you centrally manage users across multiple repositories. This saves you time and effort as your testing efforts scale. The console also offers an automated migration feature that simplifies and speeds up the upgrade process.

Important Tosca terms

If you're familiar with Tosca, you might be familiar with some of these terms. But let's take a look at them again in the context of the Tosca Administration Console.

Multi-user environment

Most features connected to the Tosca Administration Console are based on a multi-user environment. That's an environment where several users have access to the same data.

Let's say you have 20 people working on the same application under test. In this case, you want your testers to share test artifacts. A multi-user environment allows them to work together without having to pass information back and forth.

In a multi-user environment, each tester has a separate workspace. All workspaces are connected to one common repository.

Common repository

The common repository is a database that stores a team's test artifacts.

This database is not part of the Tricentis Tosca installation. You need to host and prepare it on your end. Check out this topic for details, such as which databases we support and how to prepare them.

Project

Projects are at the heart of your Tosca Administration Console infrastructure. A project is an entry in the console that defines the following things:

  • Which test artifacts are available. Every project is connected to a separate repository.

  • Who has access to these test artifacts. Only users that are assigned to a project have access to the project's repository.

  • Which connected features you use. For instance, if you want to integrate Tosca with qTest, you need to have Tricentis Notification Service for your project.

Workspaces

A workspace is the user interface in Tosca where testers create, design, and run tests. There are two types of multi-user workspaces:

  • Tricentis Server Repository workspaces. Any user who's assigned to a project can create a workspace that's connected to the project repository. It's as easy as choosing the project from a dropdown list.

  • Local database or SQLite workspaces. With these workspaces, users need two things to connect to the repository: a connection string and a Tosca Commander user account. Local workspaces only accept local users.

Get started

Only users with an administrator account in Tricentis User Administration can access the Tosca Administration Console.
