Create a test

Creating a test in Tricentis NeoLoad involves combining your recorded User Paths with populations and scenarios to define how the load test will execute. This process transforms individual user behaviors into a coordinated performance test.

This guide shows you how to create and configure a complete test.

Before you start

Before creating a test, ensure you have:

  • A Tricentis NeoLoad project.

  • At least one validated User Path.

  • Understanding of your target load profile and test objectives.

Create a test

To create a test, follow these steps:

  1. Open your project in Tricentis NeoLoad.

  2. Create a population by adding your User Paths and defining the distribution of virtual users.

  3. Create a scenario that defines your load profile, duration, and virtual user count.

  4. Configure additional test parameters:

    • Monitors - Add monitoring agents for your application servers.

    • SLAs - Define performance thresholds and acceptance criteria.

    • Load Generators - Configure load generation infrastructure.

  5. Save your test configuration.

Test components

A complete test consists of these key components:

  • User Paths - The recorded or designed user journeys.

  • Populations - Groups of virtual users executing specific User Paths.

  • Scenarios - Load profiles and timing configurations.

  • Runtime parameters - Network settings, think times, and connection behaviors.

Configure test options

Fine-tune your test with these configuration options:

  • Think times - Delays between actions to simulate realistic user behavior.

  • Pacing - Control iteration timing to maintain consistent load.

  • Error handling - Define how the test responds to errors.

  • Data variation - Use variables and data files to create realistic test data.

What's next

After creating your test, run the test to execute your performance test with configured parameters.
