Value Dashboard
The Value Dashboard tells you the cost and time savings you gain from using LiveCompare to analyze the impact of SAP changes to your systems. It’s based on your organization’s use of the following apps and workflows:
These apps and workflows use the Create Impact Analysis action to record details about each impact analysis execution in a database on the LiveCompare server, and then update the Value Dashboard. LiveCompare also runs a scheduled task named Tricentis LiveCompare Value Dashboard at 05:45 each day to update the Value Dashboard.
Pipelines
LiveCompare uses a Pipeline to store each app or workflow’s RFC Destinations and Test Repositories. The Value Dashboard identifies each impact analysis execution by its associated Pipeline.
Open the Value Dashboard
To access the Value Dashboard, go to http://<server name>/livecompare/value. Alternatively, if you have Editor or Consumer permissions, sign in to LiveCompare and select
in the apps user interface.
Availability of Value Dashboard statistics
Value Dashboard statistics are available as follows:
-
If you've upgraded from LiveCompare 2025.1 patch 3 or above, you'll see Value Dashboard statistics after one day, or after you've run one of the above apps or workflows.
-
If you've upgraded from an earlier release, you'll see Value Dashboard statistics for new impact analysis runs only.
Key assumptions
The Value Dashboard considers the following:
-
Used SAP executables.
-
Most-at-risk SAP executables.
-
The time taken run one test (you can change this value).
-
The blended hourly rate for testers (you can change this value).
-
The percentage of the application you will test (you can change this value).
It doesn’t account for the potential cost or risk of moving untested changes into a production environment, and assumes that you’ll test each SAP executable only once.
Change your currency symbol
The Value Dashboard uses $ as the default currency symbol for savings and cost values. To change the currency symbol, follow these steps:
-
Sign in to LiveCompare as an administrator, and select
to go to the studio. -
In the LiveCompare hierarchy, go to Configuration > Reports.
-
Enter a new symbol into the ValueDashboardCurrencySymbol field, and then select Save.
Dashboard sections
The Value Dashboard displays its statistics in sections. With the exception of Header, Total Value Delivered and Cost Savings Estimator, you can select anywhere in a section's title to expand or collapse the section. LiveCompare preserves your settings across browser sessions.
The Value Dashboard has the following sections:
Header
The header section displays the following:
-
The date range for all your organization's impact analysis runs.
-
The estimated cost savings across all the runs.
-
The number of impact analysis Pipelines.
-
The number of impact analysis runs.
-
The total number of unique, used SAP executables for all the runs.
Total Value Delivered
This section's header lists your organization's estimated cost savings across all the runs recorded in the impact analysis database.
Depending on how much impact analysis data you have, it also includes one of the following panels:
-
If you have more than one year of data, the Annualised Savings (12-Month Run Rate) panel shows your organization's estimated cost savings over year.
-
If you have between 30 days and one year of data, the At This Pace, Estimated 12-Month Savings panel shows your organization's projected cost savings over a year.
You'll also see the time required to run each test, the hourly rate for testers, and the percentage of the SAP application you plan to test. Use the sliders the Cost Savings Estimator section to adjust these values.
The Total Value Delivered section also has the following fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Test Executions Avoided | The number of used executables that LiveCompare identifies as not Most-at-risk. The Value Dashboard counts these as avoided test executions because you don’t need to test them as part of impact analysis. We assume that you'd have run these executables at least once during regression testing. |
| Testing Hours Saved |
This value is calculated as follows: Test executions avoided x (minutes per test / 60) |
| Analysis Runs Completed | The number impact analysis runs completed, as recorded in the impact analysis database. |
Testing Scope Reduction
LiveCompare identifies the executables that are genuinely at risk from a given set of SAP changes. This helps to reduce the testing scope for your organization's SAP applications. The Testing Scope Reduction section lists the testing scope reduction for each impact analysis Pipeline. A summary panel shows the range of testing scope reduction across all your organization's impact analysis Pipelines.
Prioritisation Funnel
This section shows how LiveCompare’s impact analysis narrows your organization's testing scope. This allows you to focus only on the SAP executables whose behavior could plausibly have changed. It has the following panels:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| All Used SAP Executables | The total number of used SAP executables across all your organization's impact analysis runs. |
| Impacted + Most-at-Risk |
The total number of used SAP executables impacted by SAP changes across all your impact analysis runs, including those that LiveCompare identified as Most-at-risk. |
| Must Test – Most-at-Risk | The number impact analysis runs completed, as recorded in the impact analysis database. |
A summary panel shows the number of SAP executables your impact analysis runs have removed from testing scope, and the reduction in testing scope you’ve achieved.
Most-at-Risk Execution Profile
LiveCompare characterizes each Most-at-Risk object according to its risk level, whether it’s a standard or custom SAP object, and whether you’ve identified it as business-critical. This section applies to all your organization's impact analysis runs, and includes the following charts:
-
The Risk Level chart summarizes the Most-at-Risk objects by their risk level. Risk factors include the search depth of each impacting object, and the usage count of the executable.
-
The Custom vs Standard SAP chart summarizes the Most-at-risk objects by whether they’re custom or standard in SAP.
-
The Business Criticality chart summarizes Most-at-risk objects by whether you’ve identified them as business critical.
These charts help you focus your testing on what’s most important.
Test Coverage Gap
LiveCompare tracks the percentage of Most-at-risk executables that already have automated test coverage. This tells you whether your organization's testing gap is closing over time. The Test Coverage Gap section includes the following:
-
A line chart that shows the test gap percentage trend for each Pipeline over time. This is the percentage of Most-at-risk executables that don’t have any tests. The chart plots the latest daily run for each Pipeline.
-
A panel that shows the following details for the latest run of each Pipeline:
-
Gap: The test gap percentage value.
-
Covered: The number of Most-at-risk executables that are covered by a test.
-
No Test: The number of Most-at-risk executables that aren't covered by any test.
-
MAR Total: The total number of Most-at-risk executables.
-
Risk by SAP Application Area
This section displays a chart that maps Most-at-Risk, Impacted, and Not-impacted executables to SAP Application Areas for each impact analysis run. It gives functional leads a clear picture of which areas need attention in each release.
Change Propagation Depth
Transport changes can affect multiple levels of SAP dependency. A change could affect an SAP executable directly, or it could affect an object lower down in the executable’s dependency chain. LiveCompare tracks all dependencies, so you'll also spot all transport objects that impact SAP executables indirectly.
The Change Propagation Depth section includes the following for each impact analysis run:
-
A chart with impacted objects at each depth.
-
The number of direct and indirect changes.
-
The lowest search depth at which LiveCompare found an impacting transport object.
Consistent Reduction Across All Runs
This section includes a line chart that plots the percentage of testing scope reduction across each of your organization’s impact analysis Pipelines, and shows the run date of each analysis.
One Tool — Multiple Use Cases
This section provides a summary of LiveCompare’s impact analysis runs, and provides the following details for each impact analysis Pipeline:
-
The number of completed runs.
-
The time period for the impact analysis runs.
-
The average number of executables analyzed.
-
The average number of transports analyzed.
-
The average number of Most-at-risk objects identified.
-
The Pipeline’s testing scope reduction percentage.
-
The Pipeline’s estimated cost savings.
Most-at-Risk Count by Object Type
This section considers all your organization's impact analysis runs, and displays a graph that groups the Most-at-risk, Impacted, and Not impacted objects by their SAP object type. It helps testing teams decide which types of regression tests to prepare. For example, functional testing for transactions, unit testing for programs, and integration testing for services.
Cost Savings Estimator
This section lets you adjust the Value Dashboard’s testing assumptions based on the time taken to run tests, your testing team’s blended hourly rate, and the portion of the SAP application you plan to test. Changes you make to these values automatically update other fields in the Value Dashboard.
The Cost Savings Estimator shows you the following:
-
The total number of test executions you can avoid.
-
The total number of testing hours saved.
-
The total cost saved.
-
The above values for each of your organization's impact analysis Pipelines.
Depending on how much impact analysis data you have, the Cost Savings Estimator includes the following panels:
-
If you have more than one year of data, the Annualised Savings (12-Month Run Rate) panel shows your organization's estimated cost savings over year.
-
If you have between 30 days and one year of data, the At This Pace, Estimated 12-Month Savings panel shows your organization's projected cost savings over a year.
You can use sliders to adjust the following values:
| Value (default) | Description |
|---|---|
|
Minutes to execute one test (30) |
The time required to run one test. If you increase this value, the testing hours saved value also increases. This is because you don’t need to test SAP executables that LiveCompare identifies as not Most-at-risk. As the time required for each test increases, avoiding these tests results in greater overall time savings. |
|
Blended hourly rate (tester) (<currency symbol>100/hour) |
The average cost per hour for your whole testing team, based on each member’s individual rate and how much time they contribute. If you increase this value, the total cost saved value also increases. This is because you don’t need to test SAP executables that LiveCompare identifies as not Most-at-risk. As the cost per hour increases, avoiding these tests results in greater overall cost savings. |
| Used executable test coverage (100%) | The percentage of your SAP executables you plan to test. If you reduce this value, the number of test executions avoided, the testing hours saved, and the total cost saved values also reduce. This is because you’re working with a smaller portion of your SAP application. |
