Introduction to Vaults

While traditional comparisons compare the data retrieved from two SAP systems, LiveCompare also allows data to be compared with what it looked like earlier in time. This is achieved using Vault objects, which are accessible from the Data > Vaults folder in the LiveCompare hierarchy.

Vaults have a similar structure to Hierarchy datasets. A Vault may be used to store a set of tables retrieved from SAP, or the contents of one or more Table datasets from a workflow, or both of these types of objects. Objects are written to a Vault using the Record Snapshot action. This action is provided with either a list of SAP tables, or one or more Table datasets. In each case, the Record Snapshot action records the specified objects in the Vault.

Each object in a Vault has a revision number. If a Vault object has changed when the Record Snapshot action is run again, a new revision of the object is created in the Vault.

The contents of a Vault may be displayed by selecting it in the LiveCompare hierarchy and choosing View Contents from its context menu. Alternatively, they may be displayed by selecting the Vault and choosing ‘View Contents’ in the Details pane.

When an object is selected from a Vault, the Details pane displays a list of the revisions that have been created for the object. Two revisions of an object may be compared by entering their revision numbers in the Compare Revisions and vs. fields.

Upgrade Vaults

Vaults have been updated in this release to use an SQLite implementation rather than a file-based implementation. If you have upgraded from LiveCompare 3.6 or earlier, any existing vaults you have will need to be upgraded before they can be accessed in this release. This can be done by running the Upgrade Vaults workflow in the Tools template package.
