Assign named approvers

By default, approval tasks in Vera go to an entire approval group. If your process requires that a specific person handles an approval task, you can assign a Named Approver. Only the assigned individual can approve or reject an approval task. The assignee and Domain Administrators can delegate the task.

Route Owners and Domain Administrators can assign Named Approvers from the Approval Task page or the Record Detail page. Any approval task can have a Named Approver, and you can configure Vera to require them at the Approval Policy, Route Template, or Approval Task level.

Assign an approver

To assign a Named Approver, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Approval Route on the Approval Task or Record Detail page.

  2. Select the edit button in the Approval Task Assignee column.

  3. Select a user account from the New Assignee dropdown, then select Assign.

Leave the New Assignee field blank to assign the approval task back to the approval group.

Delegate an approval

Assigned approvers can delegate their approval responsibility to another member of their role or approval group. Depending on the configuration, they can also delegate to the entire role group.

Domain Administrators can delegate on behalf of an assignee when needed, for example when someone is out of office or an urgent approval is required.

Notifications

Vera only sends approval notifications to the specific Named Approver assigned to the task. This includes pending approval and cancelled approval notifications.

To prevent unwanted group emails when Named Approvers are in use, disable group notifications in your SMTP settings.

Automatic reassignment

When a record is routed for approval again after rejection or revision, Vera automatically reassigns each approval task to the same individual who last approved or rejected it. This preserves continuity across approval cycles.

Approval queue behavior

Approval tasks assigned to a Named Approver only appear in that individual's approval queue. They don't display in other team members' queues, even if those users belong to the same approval group. This ensures clear ownership and reduces queue clutter.

Domain Administrators can still view all approval tasks within their domains and can delegate on behalf of any assignee.
