RFC Destination data collection guidelines

RFC Destinations allow LiveCompare to connect to SAP systems. LiveCompare uses the data you collect for RFC Destinations in most of its analysis tasks. This topic describes each type of RFC Destination data, how to collect RFC Destination data, and which types of RFC Destination data you should collect for your Pipeline’s Analysis, Comparison and Usage SAP systems. In each Pipeline:

  • The Analysis system most typically has a Development role.

  • The Comparison system most typically has a Quality Assurance role.

  • The Usage system most typically has a Production role.

Types of RFC Destination data

In the studio, LiveCompare shows an RFC Destination's data in a tabbed display. Each RFC Destination can store the following data:

RFC Destination tab Description
IMG The RFC Destination’s Implementation Management Guide (IMG) structure. This is a hierarchy of IMG table names.
OLC The RFC Destination's object links cache (OLC) data. This is a database of SAP object dependencies.
PHD The RFC Destination’s performance history data (PHD).
UPL The RFC Destination’s Usage and Procedure Logging (UPL) data.
SDD The RFC Destination’s short dump data (SDD).
DUA The RFC Destination’s daily usage audit (DUA) data.
SC_MON The RFC Destination’s ABAP Call Monitor (SC_MON) data.

How to collect RFC Destination data

LiveCompare uses RFC Destination data in its impact analysis, tests audit and IMG comparison apps and workflows. You can collect each type of RFC Destination data as follows:

Data How to collect it
IMG Select Download IMG in the RFC Destination’s IMG tab, or use Guided Configuration.
OLC Run the Create Object Links Cache workflow for the RFC Destination, or use Guided Configuration.
PHD Complete the RFC Destination’s PHD tab, or use Guided Configuration.
UPL Complete the RFC Destination’s UPL tab, or use Guided Configuration.
SDD Complete the RFC Destination’s SDD tab.
DUA Complete the RFC Destination’s DUA tab, or use Guided Configuration.
SC_MON Complete the RFC Destination’s SC_MON tab. If SC_MON data isn’t available for the Pipeline’s Analysis system, use the Import SC_MON Data workflow to copy SC_MON data from the Pipeline’s Comparison or Usage system.

Which types of RFC Destination data to collect for each system

If you plan to use LiveCompare to run impact analyses, test audits, IMG comparisons or short dump analyses, you should collect the following RFC Destination data for your Pipeline’s Analysis, Comparison and Usage systems:

System RFC Destination data to collect
Analysis

OLC (required for impact analysis).

SC_MON (optional for impact analysis).

IMG (required for IMG comparisons).

Comparison DUA (required for test audit analysis).
Usage

PHD (required for impact analysis).

SDD (optional - required only for short dump analysis).
