Compare IMG Configurations

This workflow compares IMG data retrieved from two SAP systems, and generates an HTML report from the comparison results. The portions of the IMG to compare are specified using an IMG Select List parameter in the workflow. In order to limit the comparison to configuration data only, the workflow removes cluster tables and tables that specify user and role information from the set of objects being compared. In the IMG retrieval and comparison results, nodes labeled IMGDUMMY are replaced with the correct IMG table names, obtained from an External Data Source.

Create RFC Destinations

Before you begin, you will need to create RFC Destinations for each of the SAP systems you wish to compare. Although LiveCompare provides a default set of authorizations, the SAP accounts associated with these RFC Destinations may require additional authorizations in order to access the tables that are being compared.

Prepare the workflow

To prepare the Compare IMG Configurations workflow, drag its workflow template from the Templates > Synchronization folder into your own workspace, and modify the workflow as follows:

To specify the systems to compare:

  1. Select the System 1 parameter and choose Edit RFC Destination from its context menu to display the RFC Destination dialog.

  2. Select the RFC Destination for the first system to compare, then click Save.

Repeat the above steps to link the System 2 parameter to the RFC Destination for the second system to compare.

LiveCompare includes a default IMG structure definition that allows you to select among the top functional areas from the IMGs for 4.6. 4.7, and 700 SAP kernel releases. If you want to compare smaller portions of the IMG, you can download the IMG structure for a specific SAP system and use that in your IMG select list. To download the IMG structure to be compared:

  1. Expand the Administration > RFC Destinations hierarchy folder, and select the RFC Destination for either System 1 or System 2.

  2. In the Details pane, select the IMG tab and click Download IMG.

  3. Click Refresh periodically to update the display. The Status field will indicate when the download has finished.

To specify which IMG functional areas to compare:

  1. Select the IMG Select List parameter and choose Edit IMG Select List from its context menu to display the IMG Select List dialog.

  2. Select a downloaded IMG structure from the 'IMG:' drop down list.

  3. Select the functional areas you wish to compare, then click OK.

Click Save tool button. to save the workflow.

Run the workflow

To run the Compare IMG Configurations workflow, click the Run tool button. toolbar button, choose Run Now from the diagram’s context menu, or select F5. The currently running workflow action is marked with an animated display. When the workflow execution has completed, select the Report URL dataset and choose View Details from the context menu to access the generated report.
