Basic workflow
New to Tricentis NeoLoad? This workflow walks you through the essential steps for creating, running, and analyzing your first performance test.
Set up the environment
Before you start recording and testing, set up your Tricentis NeoLoad environment. This involves creating a new project and configuring any necessary network settings.
Create a new project
To create a new project, follow these steps:
-
Open Tricentis NeoLoad.
-
Go to File > New to create a new test project.
-
Enter a project name using only letters, digits, or underscores.
Project names cannot contain spaces, punctuation characters, or dashes. For more details on project settings and advanced project settings, check out the reference guide.
Configure network settings
If you need to capture traffic through a proxy, set these up before recording. To configure network settings:
-
Go to Edit > Preferences.
-
Select Recording to configure proxy settings if your network requires it.
-
Configure any additional network parameters needed to capture traffic from your application.
For more information on recording different application types, see Record an HTTP application in proxy mode or Record an HTTPS application.
Record a user path
To record a user path, follow these steps:
-
Click Record in the toolbar.
-
Choose the browser or protocol to use.
-
Perform actions in the target application that represent a typical user journey.
-
Stop the recording to generate a User Path in the Design section.
Check the user path
Select Check User Path to replay and confirm that requests and responses are correct. Fix correlations, parameters, or dynamic values if the check fails. For detailed information, see Check a user path.
Design the load test
To design your load test, follow these steps:
-
Create a Population by adding one or more User Paths and assigning percentages of virtual users.
-
Create a Scenario that defines load profiles, test duration, and the number of users.
Run the test
To run your test, follow these steps:
-
Go to the Runtime tab.
-
Start the test and monitor execution in real time through the Runtime Graphs.
Analyze results
After the test completes, open the Results section. Review response times, throughput, and error rates. Export or compare results to previous runs if needed.
