Zones and Load Generator hosts

A Load Generator is a program that simulates the application's users. Each NeoLoad Controller embeds a Load Generator. Load Generators may be installed as separate programs on other machines.

A zone is a group of Load Generators defined usually by their geographic location. Load Generators on WAN and LAN networks, or those in Europe and in the US may be grouped together.

The Load Generators group box shows all Load Generators detected.

Load Generators icons rely on the following graphic charter:

Icon Description Meaning
Green bullet The Load Generator is available.
Padlock

The Load Generator is running and the connection is secured.

For more information, see Encryption.

Yellow bullet The Load Generator is busy in a running test.
Red bullet The Load Generator is unavailable because the Load Generator machine or the Load Generator Agent is unreachable.
Orange bullet

The Load Generator Agent needs to be upgraded. Its version is different from the version of the Controller.

For more information, see Automatically update Load Generators.

Crossed mobile

The Load Generator does not support WAN emulation.

For more information, see WAN emulation.

SAP

The Load Generator is compatible with SAP applications recording.

Processing

The Cloud Load Generator is restarting.

Warning

The connection with the Cloud Load Generator machine is lost. It is necessary to check the firewall and other network devices configuration—the port 443 must be opened.

For more information, see Prerequisites.

Terminal Services

The Load Generator is installed in Terminal Services mode. For more information, see Terminal Services.

Note: Before running a test, it is strongly advised to close the antivirus installed on the Load Generator machine. Keeping the antivirus alive may alter the relevancy of the test results.

Add Load Generators

Each Load Generator running on the local network is automatically detected by the Controller on startup. A click on the button Automatically discover remote Load Generators allows auto-discovering the Load Generators currently running (the discovery may take a few seconds).

You can also add Load Generators manually by entering:

  • their hostname or their IP address.

This way, Load Generators will use the port defined in their agent.properties file (default number is 7100).

Cloud Load Generators use port 443.

  • their IP address/hostname and port.

This option enables to host several Load Generators on a same machine and/or to use a port other han the one defined in controller.properties

Note: Connection between Controller and Load Generator is basically an HTTPS connection that is then upgraded to a WSS connection (WebSocket over SSL).

If you don't want to use the default port, enter a port number after the colon in the following format: 52.148.96.38:7101 after having configured the Load Generator in the agent.properties file. For more information, see Use a firewall between the Controller and a Load Generator.

To add Load Generators manually, follow these steps:

  1. Select a zone.

  2. Click right and select Add a new host or click the + button.

  3. In the Add new Load Generators screen, enter either the hostnames or the IP addresses or yet the hostnames/IP addresses and port numbers of the machines you want to use as a Load Generator.
