Add and upgrade a monitoring agent

By default, the NeoLoad Controller includes a monitoring agent to monitor various servers. However, monitoring agents can be installed on machines other than the Controller host machine to monitor machines on a sub network more easily. For more information about the monitoring agent installation procedure, see Install a Monitoring Agent.

Monitoring agents can be accessed in the Monitors tab of the Design view.

When the Monitoring Agents node is selected, the right-hand panel shows the list of the monitoring agents detected along with the following information: the monitoring agent status (available or unavailable), the name or IP address of the machine and the monitoring agent version.

Running monitoring agents are indicated by a green light, stopped agents by a red light and those requiring a version update by an orange light. For more information, see Upgrade a monitoring agent .

Add a monitoring agent

Clicking on the button automatically allows to find the monitoring agents available on the network (this can take several seconds). Monitoring Agents may be declared manually by entering a list of machine names or IP addresses.

Upgrade a monitoring agent

The NeoLoad Controller is able to upgrade outdated monitoring agents (orange lights in the list). This is particularly useful after upgrading a Controller.

When a test run is launched, NeoLoad checks the versions of the monitoring agents being used and prompts to update those that are out of date. Once the agents have been updated, the test continues as normal.

A Controller cannot upgrade the agent included with another Controller. In this case, it is necessary to upgrade the agent manually using the standard installer.

If the monitoring has been started with a system account that does not have the necessary user rights for program updates, automatic upgrading will not be possible. In this case, it is necessary to upgrade the agent manually using the standard installer.

Note: If the upgrade fails or if the monitoring agent does not function properly after an automatic upgrade, it is necessary to carry out a manual upgrade using the standard installer.

From NeoLoad Controller version 6.0, only Monitoring Agents in version 5.5 and 6.0 can be automatically updated. For example, NeoLoad Controller in version 6.0.1 can update Monitoring Agents version 5.5.2 or 6.0.0, but a version 6.0.1 cannot update a version 5.4.2. When automatic update is not supported, Monitoring Agents must be updated manually using the standard installer.

To upgrade a monitoring agent, follow these steps:

1. In the Monitors tab, select the monitoring agent to be upgraded.

2. Click the Upgrade button. The button is dimmed if an upgrade is not possible or not required.
